A Boombox suits situations where a small portable speaker no longer fits how you listen. But you still need to carry it and consider your existing JBL speakers. This comparison covers the Bluetooth Boombox 3, not Boombox 3 Wi-Fi.

| Feature | JBL Boombox 3 | JBL Boombox 4 |
|---|---|---|
| Battery life, up to | 24 hours | 28 hours; 34 with Playtime Boost |
| Weight | 6.7 kg | 5.89 kg |
| Protection | IP67 | IP68 |
| Speaker linking | PartyBoost | Auracast |
Check your existing speaker system first
PartyBoost and Auracast are different systems. Do not expect to link Boombox 3 and 4 directly with their grouping buttons. Choose two matching models for stereo; shared playback on different compatible speakers does not mean separate left and right channels.
If friends already use PartyBoost, moving systems may involve another speaker purchase. Starting from scratch, choose the system you want to expand rather than relying on a shared logo.
Battery life and carrying: compare normal playback
The 34-hour claim for Boombox 4 uses Playtime Boost. Normal playback compares up to 28 hours with 24. These are manufacturer figures, not our test results. Volume and content affect runtime, so allow a reserve for travel.
The weight difference helps when loading, but 5.89 kg still needs carrying. Check car space and the walk from the parking area. For longer walks, consider an Xtreme with its shoulder strap.

When upgrading makes sense
Upgrade for a feature you need, not a promise of universally better sound. Compare familiar tracks at similar volume and assess carrying comfort. At publication, the catalogue includes Boombox 4 but no separate Boombox 3 page. Check the linked product for current price and colours.
