JBL series names are a starting point, but the generation and full model name matter more. This guide compares three WaveSound models: Wave Beam, Tune Buds 2 and Tour Pro 3. The aim is to choose useful features rather than simply the most expensive range.

Wave Beam and Wave Beam 2 are different models
The table covers the original Wave Beam: it has Ambient Aware and TalkThru, but no ANC. Wave Beam 2 adds active noise cancellation. “Wave has no ANC” is therefore not a reliable rule for the range. Tune Buds and Tune Buds 2 should also be treated as separate models.
Before ordering, match the listing to the box and manual. All three models use ear tips, but their bodies differ. A case photo or the label TWS cannot tell you which will sit comfortably.
ANC and call microphones do different jobs
ANC reduces outside noise for the listener. Ambient Aware lets environmental sound through, while TalkThru helps with a brief conversation. Those modes are not ANC. Call voice processing is separate: its result is heard by the person at the other end.
For commuting, compare Tune Buds 2 and Tour Pro 3 on fit and ANC first. A microphone count is not a call-quality test. If possible, make a call from your own phone indoors and with your usual background noise.

What the upgrade to Tune Buds 2 buys you
Multipoint lets the earbuds stay connected to a laptop and phone. It does not mean mixing two audio streams at once. Test your routine: pause computer audio, take a call and return to the computer.
Tune Buds 2 is a sensible starting point if ANC and this connectivity are priorities. If you only listen from a phone in quiet surroundings, spending more may not solve a meaningful problem. Identify the missing function first.
When the Tour Pro 3 case is useful
The Tour Pro 3 case can receive audio from a compatible USB-C or analogue 3.5 mm output and transmit it to the earbuds. That can help with an aircraft system or computer. Check the source socket first: some aircraft systems need another adapter.
The case screen is useful when your phone is put away. If you always listen from your phone, the screen alone may not justify the premium. Battery life is not an automatic reason to choose Tour either: Tune Buds 2 has longer stated runtimes in the modes above.
How to compare battery life and comfort
The asterisk marks manufacturer maximums. A total with case includes recharges rather than one continuous session. Volume, calls and enabled features affect the result. For a working day, the per-charge figure in your chosen mode matters more.
Try different ear tips and turn your head when checking fit. Extra features will not fix a body that needs constant adjustment. IP54 and IP55 do not mean suitability for swimming; check the case protection separately.
Choose for your daily routine
Phone listening, podcasts and quiet walks: start with Wave Beam. Commuting with a laptop and phone: compare Tune Buds 2 and Tour Pro 3, but pay for Tour only if its extras have a clear use. Frequent flights with wired audio give its case a practical purpose.
