An HDMI cable in a spare socket does not guarantee TV sound. Audio return to a soundbar needs the labelled ARC/eARC port and the correct output setting. Start with the labels on both devices.

| Feature | Connection | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| TV audio return | HDMI ARC/eARC | Labels on both ports |
| Digital audio | Optical | TV output and soundbar input |
| No sound | Input and format | Try PCM for diagnosis |
Connect HDMI step by step
With the devices switched off, connect the TV’s HDMI ARC/eARC port to the corresponding soundbar port. Turn them on, select TV/ARC on the soundbar and external audio on the TV. Menu names vary; HDMI-CEC may be called BRAVIA Sync, Anynet+ or something else. Follow your TV manual.
Enable eARC if both devices support it and your format requires it. Test a normal TV programme, then an app. For TV-remote volume control, check CEC; a cable alone does not replace setup.
When to use optical
Connect the TV’s optical output to the soundbar input after removing the cable’s protective caps. Avoid tight bends. Select Optical and the TV’s digital output. If format support differs, PCM helps test basic stereo; it is not an Atmos setting.

If sound is missing or doubled
Check mute, input selection, the HDMI port and TV audio output. Disable simultaneous TV-speaker playback if it creates an echo. Try another source and a known working compatible cable. Do not buy another soundbar before checking the setup. For Atmos, separately verify the soundtrack, app and complete signal chain.
