Check the generation first
Bar 800MK2 is a different model from Bar 800. The same applies to Bar 1000MK2 and Bar 1000. Do not transfer channel counts, connections or dimensions from a similarly named review. Check the full product name and package label before paying.
The larger model here is 1300MK2 without an X. Regional versions and contents can differ, particularly when comparing subwoofer photographs and specifications from US reviews.
What changes in the rear speakers
Bar 800 has two up-firing drivers in the main bar. Bar 1000 adds two more in the detachable rear speakers. This is more concrete than a promise of “more spacious sound”: placement needs a clear path towards the ceiling at both ends of the system.
For rear-speaker use, detach them and place them near the listening area as the manual shows. Leaving them at the front does not create physical sources behind the sofa. Plan their positions and charging routine in advance.
HDMI: count source inputs, not every socket
Bar 800 has one HDMI input for a player or console, while Bar 1000 and 1300MK2 have three. The HDMI eARC TV connection is separate. If several devices need to connect directly to the bar, this may matter more than channel count.
Alternatively, connect sources to the TV and send audio through eARC. Check that the TV passes the required format. For gaming, verify video modes across the entire chain: eARC alone does not guarantee 4K/120 Hz passthrough through the bar’s HDMI input.
Placement and first setup
Measure your cabinet with the surrounds attached and separately for the main bar. Do not place a shelf directly over the top. The subwoofer also needs space and a socket; wireless audio does not eliminate its mains cable.
After placement, run setup and calibration according to the manual. Test dialogue, stereo content and a familiar surround scene. If Atmos is not detected, check the title, service subscription, app and output settings before changing the equaliser.
