JBL PartyBox 520 vs 720 vs Ultimate: which party speaker should you choose?

Start choosing a large PartyBox with three questions: is mains power available, how will you move it, and do you need microphones? These answers are more useful than watts alone. This guide covers the original Ultimate, without a 2, and explains the European PartyBox 720 battery configuration separately.

No mains power: budget for the complete package

520 uses one Battery 600 and 720 uses two. The official 720 guide explicitly excludes batteries for the EMEA region. Similar speaker prices do not necessarily mean similar costs for an off-grid setup: check the required batteries and their availability too.

“Up to 15 hours” is a stated maximum, not a promise at any volume. Charge and test your setup with your playlist and settings before the event. Ultimate needs mains power; buying a Battery 600 will not turn it into a battery-operated speaker.

Transport: check the whole route

JBL lists 720 at about 31 kg and Ultimate at 39.5 kg. Measure the boot and doorways, count the steps and plan lifting before buying. Shape matters too: a tall speaker takes space and must be secured for transport.

Do not choose by a promise to serve a fixed number of guests. A garden, a room and an open hall behave differently. Our advice is to describe the location, listening distances and intended volume, rather than only a headcount. For frequent moves, assess 520 first.

Karaoke and DJ use: check inputs before ordering

JBL lists two XLR inputs for microphones and equipment on 520 and 720. Ultimate provides microphone and guitar inputs. Check the output of your specific microphone receiver or mixer: “wireless” does not tell you which cable connects the receiver to the speaker.

Microphone inputs do not mean microphones are included. Compare the standalone speaker and accessory bundles separately. Test speech and music at a low starting volume before guests arrive, keeping the microphone away from the speaker’s direct output.

Wi-Fi, apps and linking speakers

Ultimate supports Wi-Fi and uses JBL One. 520 and 720 use JBL PartyBox and list Auracast linking. If you already own a JBL speaker, check the exact model pair: the same logo does not guarantee a shared connection mode.

Choosing a package in Moldova

For frequent outings, check 520; budget for two batteries with 720; consider Ultimate for a powered location with planned transport. Check price, order status and contents in the pages below. Do not assume batteries or microphones are included unless the offer lists them.
